Plastics have become an indispensable part of everyday life. However, the effects are fatal if they enter the cycles of the environment. Prof. Dr. Stephanie Mare from the Faculty of Process Engineering of the Technical University of Nuremberg is researching bio-based plastics that are biodegradable. In her project “Bio-based production of biodegradable bio-plastic polybutyric acid” she develops a continuous and thus more economical production process for the bio-plastic poly-butyric acid. The Staedtler Foundation is funding the project with 40,000 euros.
