Plastic is one of humanity’s most important challenges in addition to the imminent climate catastrophe. Because the practical plastic spills the planet more and more. First laws and resolutions often seem more like symbolic politics, but straw bans & co. Achieve at least a noticeable effect and encourage at least an examination of the topic. Apparently, Lidl also has this goal with a new seal, which should mark improved packs in this regard. Although these packs still do not come out without the plastic, the quantities are at least always dwindling in private labels.

Previous savings were apparently successful for the market. Since 2018, 282 tons of plastic have been saved in the sausage assortment alone by reducing the packaging weight of various products. Even with the bulky liquid detergent packages save the discounter of material. A change in the kitchen paper is important in the saving of plastic and other packaging: 35 tonnes of film (and 170 tonnes of cardboard sleeves) to be saved by the conversion of the “Floralys” -XXL household roll to six instead of twelve rolls per pack. However, since the rolls come with 90 instead of 45 sheets per unit, customers do not pay. In addition, due to the changed packaging, more items fit into a truck, so that in the kitchen roll alone, about 760 truck journeys are eliminated each year.
