Cespa, the subsidiary of municipal and environmental services of Ferrovial, has implemented an initiative to manage the increase in waste which has been produced in Spanish hospitals, as a result of the COVID-19 health crisis. Some Autonomous Regions and hospitals have been forced to change their protocols so that they are more operative than the current bins in order to be able to manage the waste with packaging.

Ferrovial requested to work with DS Smith, leading global provider of corrugated cardboard, due to its ability to produce a large number of cardboard bins in record time, in order to be able to meet this increase in demand.

Ferrovial has recognised the flexibility and adaptability shown by DS Smith, an example of this being the steps taken to urgently manufacture and process the requests, which DS Smith gives priority to and which are associated to this project.

Furthermore, DS Smith has joined this initiative by donating 8,000 bins made of cardboard for the Burgos University Hospital and the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, in Santander.

This project makes it easier for disposable equipment of health workers, such as masks and gloves, as well as other equipment, to be collected. The main advantage of these bins provided by DS Smith is that they do not need to be disinfected or cleaned, and as they are made of cardboard, they can be destroyed once they have been used.
