Sun Chemical has received RecyClass approval for four solvent-free laminating adhesives from its SunLam product range, confirming their compatibility with European flexible polyethylene (PE) recycling streams.

The certification verifies that the adhesives meet RecyClass’s Design for Recycling Guidelines, ensuring full recyclability within PE film structures. RecyClass, an initiative of Plastics Recyclers Europe, has become a benchmark in evaluating packaging materials for circular economy compliance.

The approved systems include:

  • SunLam ZA-1000 / ZB-301: General to medium-performance PE-recyclable adhesive.
  • SunLam XP-3288 / HA-601: Gas-barrier adhesive suitable for printed PE films.
  • SunLam QA-8000 / QB-800: Medium to high-performance PE-recyclable adhesive.
  • SunLam NS-2033 / HA-376: Solvent-free adhesive for general applications, fully PE-recyclable.

Built on Sun Chemical’s Ultra Low Monomer (ULM) technology, the adhesives offer fast curing, VOC-free production, and improved industrial hygiene while eliminating primary aromatic amine (PAA) formation risks. One variant integrates proprietary gas-barrier technology to support monomaterial PE/PE structures.

With these new SunLam adhesives, we’re expanding our portfolio with solutions that are high-performing, compliant, and sustainable,” said Nicolas Bétin, Director Product Strategy EMEA, Packaging Inks & Materials at Sun Chemical.

The RecyClass approval reinforces Sun Chemical’s commitment to sustainable packaging production, combining process efficiency with reduced environmental impact and enabling the transition toward closed-loop flexible packaging.
