Sealed Air and Bradbury’s Cheese Unveil CRYOVAC AutoWrap Lite for Reduced Plastic Packaging
November 26, 2024Sealed Air Corporation and Bradbury’s Cheese have introduced the CRYOVAC® AutoWrap Lite, an innovative packaging solution designed to significantly reduce plastic usage. This advanced system cuts plastic consumption by up to 65% compared to traditional thermoformed packs, representing a notable step forward in sustainable packaging.
The CRYOVAC® AutoWrap Lite uses only 2 grams of material for every 200 grams of cheese and extends product shelf life to nearly 100 days. Additionally, it boosts productivity by increasing line speeds and eliminates the need for costly gases like CO2 and nitrogen. “Beyond extending shelf life, the AutoWrap Lite offers multiple operational benefits, such as enhanced efficiency and reduced reliance on expensive gases,” said Stephanie Poole, Food Business Development Director, EMEA, at Sealed Air.
Bradbury’s Cheese began exploring the benefits of the AutoWrap Lite system in 2022, conducting two successful trials that demonstrated extended shelf life across various cheese products. These trials confirmed the system’s seamless integration into existing operations without supply chain disruptions. Following these positive outcomes, Bradbury’s invested in the technology, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
“As the largest independent specialty cheese provider, Bradbury’s is focused on sustainability and operational excellence,” said Brian Owens, Operations Director at Bradbury’s Cheese. “The extended shelf life is particularly advantageous during peak seasons like Christmas, where demand increases by 30%. This technology allows us to streamline production and reduce plastic waste, meeting both our environmental goals and customer expectations.”
The collaboration between Sealed Air and Bradbury’s Cheese highlights their shared dedication to innovation and sustainability. “We’re proud to support Bradbury’s in achieving their sustainability targets while improving operational efficiency,” Poole concluded. “This partnership will ensure Bradbury’s continues to lead the dairy sector and expand its reach, setting a benchmark for sustainable packaging.”
