The Shine LED Lamp Set, an innovative solution by Miraclon, has been awarded the Sustainability Award by the German DFTA Flexographic Printing Association during a celebratory event in Cologne. This marks the third industry accolade for the Shine LED Lamp Set, following its recognition with the Sustainability and Innovation Awards from the North American Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) in May 2024.

The Shine LED Lamp Set offers a straightforward and cost-effective retrofit solution for UV exposure units, enabling flexographic prepress and printing businesses to benefit from the efficiency and sustainability advantages of LED exposure technology without investing in a completely new system. Key advantages include:

  • Reduced waste and material costs: Improved consistency and uniformity in plate exposure minimize the need for replacement plates and reduce waste.
  • Enhanced pressroom efficiency: Consistent plate quality results in less press downtime and greater operational efficiency.
  • Longer lamp lifespan: LEDs last significantly longer and reduce the generation of mercury-containing hazardous waste from frequent fluorescent lamp replacements.
  • Lower energy consumption: LEDs are more energy-efficient, contributing to reduced electricity usage.

The DFTA jury commended Miraclon’s innovation, stating:
*”The Shine LED Lamp Set sets new benchmarks for ecological and economic efficiency. Against the backdrop of upcoming restrictions on UV fluorescent tubes, it provides a groundbreaking solution for the industry. Rather than requiring investment in a completely new exposure system, businesses can retrofit their existing units with the Shine LED Lamp Set at a fraction of the cost.

Sustainability is seamlessly paired with technological advancement. The higher and more consistent UV output of LED technology not only boosts efficiency but also extends lamp lifespan. This combination of resource conservation, cost efficiency, and technical progress makes the Shine LED Lamp Set a deserving recipient of the Sustainability Award. It demonstrates that sustainable innovations can be both environmentally sound and economically advantageous, paving the way for a greener and future-focused packaging industry.”*

Reid Chesterfield, Chief Technology & Innovation Officer at Miraclon, expressed his gratitude:
“At Miraclon, we are committed to delivering innovations that provide tangible benefits to our customers, making their operations more productive, consistent, and sustainable. The Shine LED Lamp Set is a simple yet transformative solution that meets all three criteria, enabling companies to transition their entire production to LED exposure affordably and efficiently. The industry’s recognition of this product, including the DFTA Sustainability Award, is a tremendous honor and reinforces our belief that we are on the right path.”
