September 3rd, the 50th anniversary of the THIMM location Castrop-Rauxel was celebrated. A special anniversary – also for the Thimm family – because the location is the first expansion location.

Around 20 years after it was founded, company founder Walter Felix Thimm decided to build a second plant in order to expand his company. The choice of location fell on the Ruhr area, because major customers could be supplied directly from there. In addition, THIMM was certain that a good market would open up in western Germany. The timing was good, as the state of North Rhine-Westphalia advertised a relocation program for companies from the non-mining sector at the time.

In 1970, a 60,000 square meter piece of land was bought, and a year later the foundation stone was laid in a green meadow. In August 1972, 41 employees started work in the 8,000 square meter factory and the first sheet of corrugated cardboard was produced.

Since then, the Castrop-Rauxel site has been continuously expanded and modernized – the plant, with around 130 employees, has now been expanded to over 20,000 square meters of floor space and has an annual production capacity of 150 million square meters.
