New Compostable Sachets Offer Sustainable Alternative to Plastic Packaging

New Compostable Sachets Offer Sustainable Alternative to Plastic Packaging

A breakthrough in sustainable packaging has been announced by Futamura, Repaq, and GK Sondermaschinenbau: fully compostable sachets for liquids like sauces and creams.

Traditional sachets, often made from non-recyclable plastic and aluminum layers, contribute significantly to global waste—over 855 billion were used in 2018 alone. The new solution, based on NatureFlex™ cellulose film, offers the same product protection and shelf life (up to 12 months) while being certified compostable at home and industrial levels.

The sachets run efficiently on existing GK machinery, requiring no major adjustments. “We replaced polluting materials with a compostable alternative—without sacrificing performance,” said Sven Seevers of Repaq.

Commercial rollout of the eco-friendly sachets is expected soon, offering brands a sustainable packaging option for small-portion liquids.
