Starr Ranch Growers, Wenatchee, Wash., has new sustainable packaging for organic apples.

The company is starting a trial with a carton for organic fujis, with plans to extend the packaging for all organic apples, according to a news release.

The corrugated packaging replaces plastic clamshells. The initial package is an 8-count in a pulp tray (net weight 4 pounds), with nine in a master carton, according to Dan Davis, director of business development at Starr Ranch Growers.

They replace 5.5-pound plastic clamshells of varying counts, Davis said.
