Scottish site becomes recycling champion

On the 6th of September 2019 we had our regular monthly visit from Jack and Maggie Herron from the 71st Ayrshire Skelmorlie Scout Group.  For nearly 20 years they have been bringing bags full of polythene waste to Berry| bpi group, Greenock for recycling.

Jack Herron mentioned that “Much of this polythene waste comes from neighbours, the local shop and our Scout group –  in fact nearly everyone in the village of Skelmorie plays a part”.

Initially the recycling used to be done at our Greenock site and then moved to Dumfries where most of the waste was turned into Plaswood products from benches and planters to picnic tables. Now, it gets recycled in Greenock again, mainly into rubble and refuse bags.

Johnstone Smith, General Manager at the Greenock site said “We are champions of increasing recycling as part of our own sustainability strategy and it’s been a pleasure to help the Skelmorie communities in this way for almost two decades. We also regularly provide donations to the Scout Group in support of their activities”.
