Laser manufacturer Rofin-Sinar UK has rebranded as Luxinar, marking a new chapter in the company’s 20-year history.

The move was announced on 25 June at this year’s Laser World of Photonics conference in Munich.

The company says the rebrand will allow it to further strengthen its portfolio of sealed CO2 lasers and a new femtosecond laser, as well as maintain its growth.

The UK division of Rofin-Sinar was required to be sold by Coherent towards the end of 2017 in order to prevent the American laser giant gaining a dominant market position – as stipulated by European Commission rules. CMR, a European private investor, acquired the firm from Coherent.

Continuing to operate from its purpose-built manufacturing facility in Kingston upon Hull, UK, Luxinar employs more than 180 people – both in the UK and overseas, with operations in China, South Korea, Germany, Italy and the USA.

The announcement was made in Munich by managing director Klaus Leitner, who also unveiled a host of new products, including a 100W femtosecond laser, the LXR 100, and a 1kW CO2 laser for higher speed processing, the OEM 100iX.

‘This is a really exciting time for our company as we move into our next chapter, building on our proud heritage to drive further innovation in the laser industry as a proudly independent business.’ said Klaus. ‘While our name has changed, the core of our business remains the same. Our products are some of the most technologically sophisticated in the world, and they exist because of the people at the heart of Luxinar. With that foundation, we are continuing to pioneer cutting-edge laser technology, helping our customers across the world to sharpen their competitive edge.’
