Jimmy Love, Chairman and Chief Executive officer of Printpack, met with company employees at the Orange, TX, manufacturing facility today and announced that the plant was closing. Mr. Love informed the group, “Decisions like this that negatively impact the lives and livelihoods of any of our associates are never easy to make, and this decision is in no way a reflection of our capable and dedicated associates in Orange, many of whom have been loyal and passionate Printpack associates for decades. He added, “Market realities force us to continue to improve our cost positions in order to sustain our business over the long term, and we are limited in how many production assets we can support in our film making platform.” The timing of the Orange shut-down will largely depend on qualifying production and transferring business to other Printpack film manufacturing plants; however, the company expects those transitions will be completed by December 2019. The facility was opened in 1959 by Crown Zellerbach and subsequently became part of the James River flexible packaging business. Printpack acquired the plant in 1996 as part of its acquisition of James River. Currently, there are 87 associates employed at this location. The company will offer transfers to associates who are interested in employment opportunities at other Printpack locations. As part of the severance package, outplacement assistance and a continuation of health care benefits will be provided.
