The geTon (yellow bin) initiative continues to grow with PreZero Dual, Lidl and Kaufland, under the umbrella of the Schwarz Group, Europe’s largest food retailer, an important ally has been won in the battle for the circular economy. Since the autumn of 2018, geTon has been uniting manufacturers of packaging, brand companies, dual systems, the waste management and recycling industry and now retail companies with the aim of optimizing packaging recycling in Germany.

Avoidance is paramount, but where we can not replace plastic, it needs to be fully integrated into a true cycle, says founding member Dr. Katharina Marquardt, sustainability expert at the Procter & Gamble Group Germany, Austria, Switzerland approaches geTon. This is what all geTon members work on, but we also need consumers to organize a successful circular economy, and if they sort out the right recycling channels at home and on the road, we will use the recyclables in the packaging, conserve resources and reduce CO2 emissions .

For 30 years there has been a recycling system in Germany that has had to endure much criticism – but is unique in the world. Based on new inspection procedures and high recycling rates under the Packaging Act, geTon is working with the companies involved to improve the existing system and promote greater acceptance of the Yellow Cask  Yellow Bags. With this in mind, geTon is launching a nationwide campaign together with PreZero Dual, Lidl and Kaufland in September, aimed at consumers in purchasing. As part of an information tour in front of Lidl and Kaufland stores, customers are informed that proper waste separation is a contribution to the protection of the climate.

With the international plastics strategy REset Plastic, the Schwarz Group is providing a global solution for the careful handling of resources and the reduction of plastic waste, which also means that we want to actively inform citizens about the important contribution they can make to more recycling, explains Dietmar Böhm , Managing Director of the disposal and recycling company of the Schwarz Group, PreZero and adds If recycling in Germany is to work and we want to make an important contribution to environmental protection, all – producers, dealers, waste disposal companies and recyclers – must help Consumer.
