Klabin, Brazil’s largest producer and exporter of packaging paper and the leading producer of corrugated board packaging and industrial bags, has announced an investment of R$188 million to expand production at its corrugated board packaging unit in Horizonte, Ceará. This investment will enable the Company to ramp up production in Northeastern Brazil and serve the growing fruit industry in the region, as well as the vegetables and greens, and industrial segments.

The investment includes the acquisition of a corrugator and a printer, besides the transfer of two printers from the Goiana Unit in Pernambuco. The project is slated for startup in the first quarter of 2023, when the unit will produce 100,000 tons of corrugated board packaging a year. Apart from increased output, the new state-of-the-art equipment will deliver high productivity and top-notch printing.

“Klabin has been experiencing a significant growth cycle in the corrugated board packaging sector. We recently acquired International Paper’s packaging plants in Brazil and are now expanding the Horizonte Unit, which underlines our successful integrated business model. Moreover, our packaging stands out for its quality, innovation and sustainability traits,” said Douglas Dalmasi, Director of Packaging Business at Klabin.

Inaugurated in 2020, the Horizonte Unit is strategically located in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza, close to both the state capital and the Port of Pecém. “This expansion will enable us to keep pace with the region’s growth, offer better and more innovative products to our clients, and scale up our contribution to the social and economic development of the city and the whole region,” Dalmasi added.
