hubergroup Pivots to Chemicals Amidst Declining Demand for Printing Ink in Europe

Facing a 50% drop in the European demand for printing ink from 2016 to Q1 2023, hubergroup, an international specialist in printing inks and chemicals, is undergoing a significant business realignment. This shift aims to lead the company back to profitable growth in Central Europe, focusing on enhancing efficiency, reducing overcapacities, and operating closer to customers. This strategic pivot, unfortunately, will lead to the loss of around 300 jobs in Germany, even though two primary sites will remain operational. Recent challenges, including the pandemic, supply chain issues, and political tensions, further influenced this decision. The company is now steering towards focusing on raw materials for the chemicals sector and packaging industry printing inks, identifying these areas as potential growth opportunities. CEO Heiner Klokkers emphasized the company’s commitment to its German roots while also leveraging its global position for broader benefits.
