For 70% of consumers, the sustainability of the packaging is important

According to a representative survey commissioned by the German Packaging Institute e. V. (dvi), the sustainability of the packaging can be crucial for the purchase of a product. Almost 70% of Germans state that they have given up buying a product at least once, because the packaging was not sustainable enough. Almost every fifth person does this regularly. On the occasion of the 5th day of packaging, the dvi will be showing an exhibition of sustainable packaging innovations on 6 June 2019. The tag of the packaging this year under the motto packaging – between reputation and reality.

  • 19.3% of Germans regularly abstain from buying products that they think are not packed sustainably enough.
  • 50.2% have already done this at least once.
  • 30.5% state that the sustainability of packaging plays no role in their purchasing decision.

The current dvi survey on the occasion of the 5th national day of packaging shows that packaging not only plays a central role in the protection of products, but is also of great importance for consumers’ purchasing decisions. As a network of the packaging industry we look forward to the great awareness and responsible action of the population. Our industry has also recognized the signs of the times. It is on the right track with numerous innovative solutions. And it meets the wishes and demands of the population, comments Kim Cheng, Managing Director of the German Packaging Institute e. V.
