EcoLam strikes at the Packaging Innovation Award

Dow announced the winners of the 2021 Packaging Innovation Award in a virtual ceremony at the end of March 2022. Constantia Flexibles and its customers struck multiple times for the silver medal with the versatile EcoLam mono-PE solution. The high barrier PE laminate EcoLamHighPlus for coffee bag delivers high moisture and oxygen barrier as well as great machineability, with enhanced heat resistance of the external layer and excellent sealing performance. The product is produced in our Tobepal plant in Spain. The other winning project was also based EcoLamHighPlus, packaging confectionery more sustainably. The Constantia Flexibles team in India developed a 100% mono-PE solution to replace the multipolymer packaging previously used. Not only did the packaging artwork continue to dazzle on the sweetshop shelf, but the consumers can now also experience easier tear open. On top, the laminate is designed to be fully recyclable in the PE stream while satisfying all functional and aesthetic requirements of the product.

The Packaging Innovation Awards by Dow honors packaging projects around the globe for more than three decades. The independent jury from seven countries evaluates 189 submissions showcasing the very best in sustainable innovations. Hereby, the judges look at three criteria, while at least one must be met: technological advancement, responsible packaging, and enhanced user experience.
