The D. & W. Flexo manufactory in Osterwieck, Germany has recently successfully completed Miraclon’s certification program for KODAK FLEXCEL NX plates. With the FLEXCEL NX certification, D. & W. wants to document on the market that the company produces a consistently high board quality and meets the demanding production standards defined by Miraclon.

The full-service provider of prepress and creative services for packaging printing has grown dynamically since its founding in 2006 and today has 49 employees. Flexible packaging and corrugated printing (postprinting) each account for 40% of the flexographic printing plate production at D. & W. The remainder are distributed over the preprint, labels, paper and plastic bags and offset printing (varnishing). The company, which has been using KODAK FLEXCEL NX plate technology since 2011, today uses a FLEXCEL NX Wide 5080 system.

FLEXCEL NX panels now account for 40% of D. & W.’s plate production. According to Managing Director Thomas Wambach, this share will continue to rise. The D. & W. team is particularly impressed by the high reproducibility and dimensional stability of FLEXCEL NX sheets and the advantages of DIGICAP NX patterning for ink transfer.

In the corrugated board, we were able to increase the quality tremendously with the FLEXCEL NXC board in terms of ink transfer, register and the uniformity of the printed image. And with flexible packaging, the Miraclon FLEXCEL NXH plate has become a standard that the market is asking for, explains Thomas Wambach.

At D. & W., investment in a second FLEXCEL NX system is being considered due to strong corrugated board growth.
