Employees at a former Bemis North America plant, now called Amcor, are bracing for layoffs.

Internal documents posted in the New London factory tell employees that 70 to 110 workers will be laid off in the future to cut the cost of producing certain flexible packaging products.

The documents were shared with USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin by an employee, and confirmed Thursday by an Amcor spokesman.

The plant has about 500 employees.

“Several items currently produced in New London will be targeted for optimization and movement to lower cost options throughout the network, which is anticipated to affect 70-110 employees in the facility,” reads a memo dated June 4.

On Tuesday, the day the deal was finalized, Amcor’s coprorate spokesman Daniel Yunger said, “no announcements regarding changes to current employment have been made.” “The situation in New London was definitely not related to the Amcor-Bemis deal,” said Mark Hein, a Amcor spokesman based in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, on Thursday
