Aquapak Polymers, the firm behind Hydropol, a polymer based on PVOH, has recently become part of The Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging (CEFlex) initiative. CEFlex consists of over 180 European entities, from companies to organizations, and aims to transform all flexible packaging in Europe to a circular model by 2025.

As a member, Aquapak aims to push the circular economy advantages of Hydropol. The polymer can facilitate the recycling of all flexible packaging responsibly and efficiently. This contribution is pivotal in establishing reliable ‘Designing for a Circular Economy’ standards, which ensure that recycled packaging materials are reintroduced into the market in the right amount, quality, and price.

Hydropol is considered a significant technology for the circular economy. It’s recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable, with no negative impacts on the marine environment. It can be coated onto plastics and other materials, and can be recycled back into pellets for reuse. Hydropol’s utility and compatibility with current recycling infrastructure presents a promising avenue to protect resources and the planet.

Aquapak’s CEO, Mark Lapping, expressed his pleasure at being part of the CEFlex initiative, highlighting the need for a change in the industry’s current recycling focus. He emphasised that Hydropol offers an eco-friendly and non-toxic alternative, fitting within the global recycling infrastructure.
