AICC, The Independent Packaging Association, has released the third edition of Understanding the Key Characteristics of Linerboard and Medium and their Impact on Combined Corrugated Board. The 12-page brochure offers descriptions of key performance attributes and how they impact box performance. The materials are comprehensive in nature and will benefit those in sales, production, design, purchasing, customer service, and quality control.

AICC President Michael D’Angelo said, “AICC members are seeking quantitative ways to compare containerboard quality from various suppliers. This could become even more important as supply chains evolve as a result of the current crisis.”

Informed members can ask suppliers to provide additional information about performance attributes not generally included on a standard roll stock label. The templates included with the publication contain descriptions of performance tests as well as industry-standard ranges of acceptable measurements.

“We believe this will be an important tool for AICC members as they work with their suppliers and customers to provide better-engineered corrugated packaging,” said author, Ralph Young, Principal of Alternative Paper Solutions and AICC Corrugated Technical Advisor. “When the industry began using ECT grades nearly 30 years ago, the responsibility for performance moved away from the mill and downstream toward the combining and converting operation. This publication will help sheet plants better understand the combined board they are receiving from their sheet supply network.”
