A plastic film used for the protection of food and inactive surfaces by SARS-CoV-2

A transparent and stretchable PVC plastic film designed for packaging food such as meats, fruits and hams and for surface protection, capable of inactivating the new coronavirus. This material, marketed by the plastics manufacturer Alpes, in Brazil, has microparticles of silver and silica in its composition, a technology developed and licensed by the company Nanox, with headquarters in the city of São Paulo (also in Brazil), which covers with the support of FAPESP through its Innovative Research Program in Small Companies (PIPE). In studies carried out in the level 3 (NB3) biosafety laboratory of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of São Paulo (ICB-USP), the material demonstrated a capacity to eliminate 79.9% of SARS-CoV- particles 2 in 3 minutes and 99.99% in 15 minutes.
